1. Introduction

Welcome to Hook It ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience while using our Service. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

By accessing or using our Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all the terms outlined in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide to Us

We may collect information that you provide directly to us when you:

  • Account information: Email address, name, and display name when you register.
  • Profile information: Profile picture and preferences you set.
  • Saved content: URLs, titles, descriptions, and metadata of content you save ("hooks"), including collections and tags.
  • Communications: Information you provide when you contact us for support or feedback.

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you use our Service, we may automatically collect certain information, including:

  • Device information: Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers for compatibility.
  • Log information: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and time spent on the Service.
  • Usage data: App interactions, feature usage, and crash reports to improve performance.
  • Location information: General location based on your IP address.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for various purposes, including to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Hook It service.
  • Sync your saved content securely across all your devices.
  • Process and complete transactions (if applicable).
  • Send technical notices, updates, and service notifications.
  • Analyse usage patterns to develop new features and improve the user experience.
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions or illegal activities.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase infrastructure hosted on AWS. We take reasonable measures, including TLS encryption in transit and encryption at rest, to protect your information from loss, theft, and unauthorised access. However, no electronic transmission or storage is ever fully secure.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share your information:

  • With service providers (like Supabase and Expo/EAS) who carry out work on our behalf.
  • With RevenueCat, which manages App Store and Google Play subscriptions for us and receives your account ID, email address, name, app language, sign-up date and purchase history, so we can tell whether you have Pro and support you with billing. If your store account is used by another Hook It account, your subscription may be moved to that account (see our Terms).
  • With PostHog, which receives app usage data (screens viewed and features used, linked to your account ID, never your saved content or searches) so we can improve the App. You can turn this off in the App under Profile → Security → Privacy.
  • With PostHog and Vercel Analytics on our website (hookit-app.com), which receive anonymous visit data: pages viewed, referring site or campaign, country, device type and which App Store or Google Play button was clicked. PostHog runs in cookieless mode on the website and does not create a profile of you.
  • With Sentry, which receives crash reports and error details linked to your account ID.
  • In response to legal requests if disclosure is required by applicable law or regulation.
  • To protect the rights, property, and safety of Hook It or others.
  • In connection with any merger, sale of assets, or financing of our business.

6. Your Rights & Choices

You have several choices and rights regarding your data:

  • Access & Correction: You may update or correct your account information at any time via App settings.
  • Deletion: You have the right to delete your account and your personal data. Delete it in the App (More → Personal Information → Danger zone) or request deletion on our account deletion page. See section 7 for what happens next.
  • Export: You may export your saved hooks at any time.
  • Marketing: You may opt out of receiving promotional emails by following the instructions in those emails.

7. Data Retention & Account Deletion

When you delete your account, we sign you out of all devices and keep your account in a "pending deletion" state for 7 days. If you log in during this time you can restore it. After 7 days we run an automatic process that permanently erases your personal data:

  • your email address, name, username, profile picture and preferences;
  • your sign-in details, including links to Apple or Google sign-in;
  • your notes, collections and tags;
  • your push notification tokens, device information and notifications.

Your customer record at our subscription provider (RevenueCat) is kept as a financial record. It stays linked only to your deleted account's ID, but it may still hold the email address and name we sent to it. We keep it for tax, accounting and dispute purposes, and you can ask us to remove those details earlier by contacting us. Some other information is kept in anonymous form, with nothing that identifies you: the links you saved and their cached previews and images (which we may reuse as cached copies), billing and subscription records that we must keep for tax and accounting purposes, and aggregated usage and error statistics. Information held by third parties such as Apple, Google, or app stores is governed by their own policies; if you signed in with Google you can remove Hook It from your connected apps at myaccount.google.com/connections.

8. Cookies & Tracking

The Hook It mobile App does not use tracking cookies. Our website uses essential cookies for functionality, and its analytics run without tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details.

9. Children's Privacy

Hook It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes via the Service or email.
